Hi "Bill". I like the choice of words. It is ... familiar ... very familar. ;)

You are right, we were trying to make a difference. Did we achieve that? You for sure. I simply don't have the patience (yet?). While growing older, it may eventually come to me. Maybe it's a virtue you have acquired with age as well?

You wouldn't get as much sun in Italy as you get now in Iceland. While I am writing this (23:00 local time) the sun is shining through the window of my living room ;)

Yes, maybe I am using dark imagery, but enlighten me ... show me the talent ... I hevn't seen it in years. I'd love so much to help those newcomers and work together with them to create new tutorials and so on. You know my contact ... let me know!

Dear Oliver,

you sure are one distinguished member of the Delphi Community for me. If you want some time off, you always can have it. Only those who engage, suffer, after all. I am slightly worried by your gloomy picture language. Perhaps you should consider to relocate to sunny Italy, for instance. Cheer up a bit reading "Bad Omens". If it's only for the future of a product, this is fine with me. Didn't we try to make a difference, over at DP? There is talent on it's way amidst all mediocracy, so after a while even you will enjoy it again. I sincerely hope it wasn't me who made you bail out - that sure would make a sad old bird.

See you

Hi fellows, thanks for the comments so far.

Of course you are free to consider it a loss, but I don't think it is. On the other hand Robert's death half a year ago - most of you Delphians/JEDIs (whether German or not) will know the name - was a true loss. It could be he had the enduring patience I am lacking.

Consider other Delphians, mainly members of the German Delphi-PRAXiS (see the sidebar for the link), who have been, are and will likely continue to contribute a lot to the Delphi community. To name a few in no particular order: marabu, mkinzler, Remko, dezipaitor, Luckie, nicodex, toms, DeddyH, OldGrumpy, Loonies, madshi. This is list is by far not complete, but if you see it in this perspective, the "loss" isn't big at all ;)

I shouldn't forget to mention the "Desperate House Elf" of the Delphi-PRAXiS and his team who made the DP the most worthwhile Delphi forum in the German Delphi community. Thanks, keep up the good work and keep the DP moving ...

Nice comment. What I don't like about Delphi nowadays is that it is becoming more and more of an environment to develop database-applications *yawn* If you read the posts in most of the delphi forums this very often is the major subject. This and its OS dependancy IMHO may have led to comments like the following one quoted from the current Numerical Recipes Book: "At various times we convinced ourselves that the wave of the scientific future would be ...Fortran ...Pascal ...C ...Fortran 90 (or 95 or 2000) ...Mathematica ...Matlab ...C++ or Java .... Indeed, several of these enjoy continuing success and have significant followings (not including Pascal!)." After had having a little shock reading this I more and more understood what the authors meant while comparing C++ with Delphi. This is s.th. I always wanted to say but never could have brought up in a delphi forum without getting bashed. Thanks for reading and keep up the freedom-of-speech-attitude!

Even though your decision is not really unexpected for me I didn't expect that you'd do it now. I feel it's (once again) a huge loss for the community and offcourse for our projects. I can only thank you for all that you have done for the community, all help you gave me and others and mostly your contributions to the Jedi projects.
If you ever decide to come back (and I hope you do) you are ALWAYS more than welcome!
